SECTION TWO: LEARNING OUTCOMES
For each of the AKA undergraduate core curricular elements described above it is important to identify clearly stated learning outcomes. A sample set of learning outcomes that are consistent with the AKA Core Curricular elements were developed by an AKA working group. These learning outcomes are intended to serve as exemplars of possible learning outcomes. Individual departments are free to adopt these outcomes, modify them, or develop their own.
Kinesiology Core Element - Physical Activity in Health, Wellness, and Quality of Life
AKA Recommended Learning Outcomes
A Kinesiology graduate will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the acute and chronic effects of human movement, or the lack thereof, on main physiological systems in the human body.
- Describe the relationships among exercise, physical activity, and sedentary behavior and subsequently apply this knowledge to realize health, wellbeing, and quality of life benefits for individuals varying in health status and personal goals.
- Demonstrate digital and information literacy by
- critically evaluating research and
- locating and interpreting government and professional guidelines for physical activity, exercise, and sedentary behavior recommendations for individuals varying in health status and personal goals.
- Design and evaluate safe and effective physical activity, exercise and sedentary behavior programs for individuals and groups varying in health status, personal goals, and resources.
Kinesiology Core Element - Scientific Foundations of Physical Activity

A Kinesiology graduate will be able to:
- Explain how the scientific process informs our understanding of physical activity.
- Describe the underlying scientific foundations of physical activity.
- Critically evaluate information about physical activity from scientific basis.
- Develop evidence-supported recommendations for improving aspects of physical activity for a variety of settings and population demographics.
Kinesiology Core Element - Cultural, Historical and Philosophical Dimensions of Physical Activity

A Kinesiology graduate will be able to:
- Describe the sociocultural and historical factors that influence physical activity.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of cultural differences and make ethical decisions.
- Critically evaluate scholarly work related to cultural, historical and philosophical dimensions of physical activity.
- Devise solutions involving policy or cultural changes to address contemporary issues related to physical activity, health and wellness, and social outcomes.
Kinesiology Core Element - The Practice of Physical Activity
AKA Recommended Learning Outcomes
A Kinesiology graduate will be able to:
- Describe movement concepts, principles, and strategies for performing and learning physical activity movements and skills
- Demonstrate psycho-motor and physical competency by producing coordinated, adaptable, and efficient physical activity movements and skills
- Formulate and apply social, emotional, and affective aspects of physical activity to professional practice and everyday life
