CAREERS in SPORT, FITNESS and EXERCISE

Careers in Sport, Fitness, and Excercise

Now for the first time high school and college students, guidance counselors, and university advisors and faculty have access to a single resource that describes career tracks in the many exciting areas of kinesiology. The list of careers reviewed is exhaustive and includes careers in fitness instruction, personal training and fitness center management, coaching, physical education, and sport psychology, sport management, sport media, sport marketing, athletic training, exercise rehabilitation, and sports dietetics. A chapter is devoted to post-graduate study in physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic, and as physician assistant, careers for which an undergraduate degree in kinesiology is excellent preparation.

The first two chapters are devoted to general critical issues related to selecting and preparing for careers in the field. Careers in Sport, Fitness, and Exercise was produced under the auspices of the American Kinesiology Association, a consortium of college and university departments of kinesiology in the USA. Each chapter, written by an author with years of experience teaching and counseling students preparing for careers in kinesiology, gives special attention to the kinds of work done by professionals in the area, the types of professionals they will interact with, the settings in which they will work, the skills, knowledge and certifications they will need, and the type of education required to succeed.
